Hey there everyone!
Is been almost 6 months since my last post.... I really nice to keep up to date on these things.
Anyways,
Summer is here and a new year has started up at school. This will be the second year working in Nagareyama.
We sent off the third years off with a bang! A lot of smiles... With some that can't wait to start High school and some that can't wait to get out of middle school...
The last few days at work were full of laughter and tears. Some of the student wrote me a thank you card....
The trouble makers *boys* at the school decided to leave their mark...
Throwing toilet paper around *in the girls washroom* and leaving a huge pile of text books and paper stuff into the water maintenance shaft... Basically a whole class *35 odd students' random papers all over....
It sounds like a big clean up... But the brats stuff the trash can into the shaft as well... So basically a few student and I gather it up and took it out..
Some teacher were got pretty angry when they heard... Even though I was the one who cleaned it up lol... I thought it was actually pretty funny when I found the missing trash can.
Anyways, I'll write more about the last 6 month in the next post
Cheers!

Drinking coffee
Well, everyone happy Wednesday...
It's that time again that comes every week... For the ones having a good time, the week is just getting started... For others, it's almost finished...
I would be a part of the latter. I'm pretty tired...
Yesterday, I got home thinking it was Wednesday to wake up to Thursday ... I woke up to Wednesday... Doesn't that suck? Hahahha .
Anyways, yesterday I got home from work really tired... I pulled out my coffee press and made my self a really big cup of coffee... It keep me going for a few more hours till I fell asleep..
I was going to make myself another pot today but I ran out of water....
Ok that was a straight out lie... I was just to lazy... I got a good friend Mr.Donut to out on a pot for me...
The weather up here in Nagareyama has turned cold... I had to take out my big Canadian scarf I got from the nice ladies I did the Morioka - Victoria Mural with...
The student are looking cold too... Except for the few student that refuse to wear pants and are still wearing their summer shorts....
We were technically not supposed to turn on the heater for an another few days but.... Some teachers have been... Aaaa.. Testing them.... All day.... Just to be sure their are working...
Small problem is we only have heating oil leftover from last year.... We should be getting heating oil soon....but when the stuff we have runs out..... Well, I know that I'll be crying on the inside lol
Anyways...
Till next time,
Tom

Up to Morioka
Hello everyone!
Last weekend, I jumped on the E5 Shinkansen and headed back up to Iwate!!! And I did a small tour around the town and head down the road I used to live and visited some people randomly....
Of course, If I'm riding up in style.... Hmmm Yummm . I gotta get some grub.
After I arrived, I spent the night at a hotel and picked up a car the next morning...
Just a little back story... I lived up in Morioka for about 2 years back in 2005... I was on a international program between Camosun College and Morioka Universtiy formally( Morioka College)
I stopped off at Hachiman-gu temple walked around.... Took a few pictures...
I walked around and I took a second to just to look around....
It was about 9:00 am and there were only a few people around.... I realized how peaceful Morioka really is.... And how fresh the air tasted.. And how much I missed it...
Leaving Hachimangu, I head off to Aiina..
Hey look !! One World Festa!!
Now theres a big gap here in pictures. I forgot to take any.... I popped my head in at the New Straight Talk around 12ish to see David, Mayumi and the guys and had lunch.. I was really happy to see the new place, It had a really modern look and the class rooms were much bigger. I talk with David, Luke and ... George'o? the new guy... hahaha! "Sorry man, I forgot your name!!"
We talked about old issues and new ones... I also found out that Takizawa-Mura is going to become Takizawa-Shi!!! Hot dam!
I felt really nice to see the gang there... and just seeing them and the new place made me wanna move back up soo bad!!!
Hope to see you guys soon again!!!!
.
.
.
Anyways, I jumped back in the car and went all the way up to Morioka College ... Said my hello's to Mr.Terui and a few others working on a Saturday.... I felt really strange being back..... It all seems like yesterday.... Just I didn't know any of the cute students hahahah
------------------------
Dinner Time:
Around 6:00, I headed up to my dear friend, Ms.Yoshimi's house for dinner... She had organized a small party.
We toasted our glasses and in enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by all the members of Step 21. Everyone including my wonderful home-stay Mother and Father Mr. and Ms. Murayama were there!!!!
I was so happy to see them all... I only called a week before but everyone made time to meet together....
The dinner was wonderful!!! Thank you everyone!!! Thank you soo much!!!
Sorrry.... I forgot to take pictures again.... I was too busy talking!!!!
I headed back to the hotel, had a quick shower and headed back out...
Anyways.. My long long long day ended with randomly showing up at "Faces" to see James.... hahaha
As always, he was working hard... This guy like runs 3 of his own schools, works at two universities and has his own dance club.... If there was anyone that needed a clone, he would be it...
But he was able to make a little time for me and talk about old times...
Thanks for the beer James!
Anyways.... I really enjoyed my time back in Morioka.... I hope I can see everyone again soon!!!

Fall Update - Yes We Can!!
Hi there everyone!
Stephen is long gone and summer has passed...
I have been sick the last little bit and I’ve been seeing the a few doctors here and there…
But all in all I’ve been trying to take things slow. Well... at least after September...
I have three other people here in the office that have the
same birthday as me…. Normally I wouldn’t really do anything … but the three of
use decided to give each other presents ….
I got this little guy from the second year social studies
teacher…. It’s the perfect plant for me…
I only have to water it 2 times a month….. Basically, when I can’t remember the
last time I watered it….. I water it.. I’ve killed too many plants.
At school here, I was pretty busy up till the 31 of September… Sports day … and for some reason… sports day practices… I don’t mean like… Oh! Lets have fun and play
a few games…
These guys were serious… Practice enter the field, practice walking, practice
talking, practice making speeches, practice cheering ?!!?!
I can’t believe that middle school students practice cheering….
Doesn’t it defeat the purpose of cheering….
Of course…. For those that don’t like thinking for themselves
.. it’s perfect… Just follow and listen enough not to get shouted at by the teacher…. No need
to think about what to say…. No need to act on one’s own will….. No need for creation
or creativity..
There is something broken with this system of teaching…. And
I really think it needs to stop… But that’s a subject for another time……..
Rant finished…
In other news....
A met up with some old old friends…. I haven’t seen them for
almost 9 years…… (Well, I saw Yu once a few weeks ago…) but I haven’t seen Yuji
and Yu forever!!!
I was really interesting to meet up with them and talk about
old times…. We talk and talk for hours….. I was really glad to meet up with them… Yu has recently returned from Canada and spending some well deserved
time with family…
And Yuji …. Yuji and I talked about future things.... Life... Money... Marriage etc …
We both talk about how so many people around us have gotten hitched and were having kids....….. At the
moment we are trying to fight a losing battle…..
Have you ever watched that anime…. Were a strange doll
arrives at this guys house… Although he never ordered anything….. And it was some mysterious packages..
Well…. That was me a few days ago…. A strange package arrived at my house.... I
signed for it and opened it up and…..!!
HATSUNE MIKU!!!
I check the label with the words…. Because you wanted a 彼女。。。 James
Park!!!
Hahaha My good friend James ordered the figure for me…. And had
it shipped to my house…!!!
It was a very nice surprise!! Hahaha
THANKS AGAIN JAMES!!!!

And last but not least…. My new book….
It’s a book on how to make old fashion style Japanese bentos…. 「Za – Showa Bento」
Anyways…. I hope that everyone is keeping well… and I’m
sorry for the blog update delay…

Summer Vacation 2012 - Day 4 to Day 21 - Part one
So, My original plan of making one day a day failed... It mostly has to do to the fact that we were go! go! go! for the whole trip.
Today is date 22 and Stephen is currently on his way back to the airport... and I am on at work on Lunch Break. I would have liked to have sent him off at the airport but I don't have anymore holiday days left..... I used them all.
Anyways, still in Osaka. A friends of mine that I went to school in Chiba, just happened to be visiting her parents in Osaka at the same time!
I got up a little before Stephen and met her at the station!
And got some ice cream.... for breakfast .... Osaka was really hot....
Anyways, we met up with Stephen and went of to see ¿Osaka Tower?
It gave us a good view of the city...
Anyways, after we looked around for a bit. We started getting hungry again and started to look for a place to eat...
Anna suggested we eat at this really popular Takoyaki place called Yamamoto... Only problem...
So we walked over the a noodle shop just across the road and order a kind of ramen noodle called tsukemen. A very flavorful soup severed in a small bowl with the noodles in another.. Dipping the noodles in the gravy like soup as you eat them... We weren't able to eat at Yamamoto but the noodles were awesome!!
We slurped down our noodles and head out to the cup noodle factory
!! Thats right!! The Cup Noodle Factory!!
We bought cups of noodle for ¥300
We bought our cups and then took out some pens and designed our cups!
I got in line with my personalized noodle cups and got to choose what toppings we wanted inside...
Green onion with double shrimp!!!!
Really old package of Chicken Ramen!!!
The next day, we took a train and walked to Osaka Castle!!
Looking down from the Castle
Night Shot
With again hungry stomach we head over to Dotonbori to see the lights and met......
TAIYU!!!!
Taiyu and I were friends in high school almost 10 years ago!! I had always wondered what had happened to him till just resonantly reconnected over Facebook.
As soon as I had mentions that I was heading over to Osaka he quickly wrote back and we met up for drinks and Okonomiyaki !!!
We had so much to catch up on! He is getting married in a few months !!
-------------------------------------------------
So! The next day! We got up bright and early and jumped on the train down to Kobe!
Yeah!!! Kobe!!!
With no time to waste, we dropped our stuff all at the hotel and got directions to the cable car up Rokko Mt. ( Or at least we tried too )
When I asked the lady in the hotel lobby, she looked like she had never hear of it before.... She took me over to the guest computer *Which was off* and tried to search for it... She didn't know how to turn on the computer..
Then when she did... She didn't know how to start Internet Explore.... She was trying really hard.... Really.... I felt almost bad for her....
Anyways, I said thank you and me and Stephen walked over to Family Mart (A convenient store) and asked there... Hahaha
Anyways, We got to the cable car and headed up the 950 meter mountain!!! !
Heading up!
Now thats a way down!!!
As we headed up one of my teeth started to bug me really bad.... I just ignored it, thinking to might self that I really need to see the dentist soon.... again..
We got to the top and I'm in a really bad mood.... My tooth hurts.... We got on a bus to keep going the remanding 50 meters up a swerving road..
By this time.. I had pull my camera in my bag and was just sitting in the corour of the bus in pain.... ( Oh ... I'm gonna die )
We got off a bus and we went to see the city from the top..... and... Clouds ... We couldn't see much .... I found a small cafe on the top of the mountain and stumbled my way inside and order a cup of tea.. ( Thats mine British side of my trying to save my life )
I got my cup tea and a really good slip and let it sit in my mouth...
UGHAHAH!!!! It hurt even more!!
Anyways ... Old story short... Stephen basically said.. Ok we're going to a dentist... and we took the next bus to the train and headed back down the mountain...
I'm sitting in the corner of the cable car nursing my mouth on the way down.... But as we heading back down... the pain started to go away!!
Till we reached the bottom the pain was almost gone!!
Anyways... I went to see a dentist... (Which was blood hard to do during the Obon holiday season ) and got him to check me out....
Basically there was cavity that had formed under an old filling that had make a pocket of air in one of my teeth... We wasn't 100% but that was his best guess....
Apparently this type of problem only happens to air plane pilots as the conditions need to cause actual pain are quite rare..... In a nutshell... The dentist thinks I will need to get a root canal in this tooth to solve the problem...
That was the end of that day... I went to the hotel and down a hand full of pain killers....
Next day, we had breakfast and head out out for a small walk...
\And we end up at the Sea port at the Oriental Hotel....
We contemplated staying a night there and charging it to Uncle Peters credit card but managed to just settle with a quick look inside....
Shot of the water fountain from the top floor....
The next day!!!! ( Aug 14th )
We followed our plans took us to Nara.. A city famous for Deer!!
Why??? Deer?
Because they are everywhere!!!
And they are super friendly!! The deers over run a park and the nearing temples and although are very friendly... are actually wild!!
I was able to get a really CLOSE SHOT.... Much closer then my iPhone probability would have liked....
I pull a cookie on top of my phone and let the deer at it!!
Heading though the park to one of the larger temples
Little candle in of the the shrines....
Now Kansai is famous for Warabi Mochi a type of Mochi ( Rice cake ) that really isn't made of rice.... but rather a leafy plant..
It was served in a bowl with sweet water with ice.... I spooned chucks of the Mochi and dripped / rolled the chucks in different surgely drips...
Oh... So great!!!
By this time it was dark and we continued to follow the weakly lite paths to the other temples....
A really big Daibutsu !!
----------------------------------------------
Do you remember the movie the Memories of a Geisha??
Click the movie to jog your memory!
That scene was taken from this temple... To be honest.. the scene doesn't makes much sence... The girl is running away right?!?
The red gates (Tori) path is just a circling loop around the montain.... She wouldn't get very far...
I think a part of the movie was shot here....
A water foutain at the along the path...
We ended the day with a big plate of curry .... Gotta love Coco's!!
Ok... My fingers hurt.... I'll have the post the rest later...
A very tired ....
-Tom
